Why Wine Cellars Go Wrong for Good Builders

A wine cellar is a sealed refrigerator with furniture in it. Ordinary framing and HVAC habits can work against it.

Fiberglass traps moisture

Warm, humid air meets a cold wall and condenses inside the assembly. We use closed-cell spray foam, which insulates and acts as a vapor barrier.

Central AC isn’t enough

It cycles with the house, strips humidity and lets the temperature swing. A cellar needs a dedicated unit sized to a heat load calculation.

Why central AC fails →

Glass changes everything

Frameless glass is about R-1 and framed insulated glass is about R-2 to R-3. That drives the size of the cooling unit and whether the glass fogs.

Doors swing out

Swinging the door out of the cellar frees up floor space and keeps the racking layout clean. It’s easy to get right at framing and painful to fix later.

Builder Questions, Answered

Do I have to be certified to work with Prestige on design and materials?

No. This path is separate from the Prestige Certified Installer program. You keep your own client and build, and we provide the design and materials.

Will you give me trade pricing?

Trade terms aren’t published yet. We’ll send them to the builder waitlist when they’re ready.

Will Prestige sell to my client directly?

On this path your client stays your client, and you hold the contract.

Can you ship materials outside Texas?

Yes. We ship materials anywhere in the world. Tell us where you build, and we’ll confirm lead times and delivery for your project.

What does design cost?

Custom wine cellar design is a flat fee set by project size: $5,000 for cellars up to $100,000 to build, $7,500 up to $150,000, and $10,000 above that.

Can my team take the course without getting certified?

Yes, that’s the plan. Certification is only for people who want to present themselves as Prestige Certified Installers.
