How much does a custom wine cellar cost?
Every cellar is priced from its size, racking, glass, and cooling requirements. Smaller glass-front wine walls and reach-in cellars typically start in the low five figures, while large walk-in cellars with full climate control can reach six figures. What temperature and humidity should a wine cellar be?
The target is 55°F with 55-65 percent relative humidity. Stable conditions matter more than exact numbers — swings in temperature and humidity are what damage wine, dry corks, and spoil labels. That is why a properly sized cooling system and a sealed envelope are the heart of every build.
Which wine cellar cooling system do I need?
There are three families: self-contained (through-wall), split systems, and ducted systems. The right choice comes from a load calculation — room volume, insulation, glass area, and where the heat exhausts — not a catalogue. In hot climates like Texas, undersizing is the most common and most expensive mistake.
Why do you use closed-cell spray foam insulation?
Closed-cell spray foam insulates and acts as the vapour barrier in a single pass, sealing every seam and penetration. Traditional fibreglass batts with poly sheeting fail at the seams, letting humid air condense inside the wall — the leading cause of mold and rebuilt cellars.
Can I build a wine cellar under the stairs?
Yes — under-stairs wine cellars are one of our most requested builds. The same rules apply at small scale: sealed envelope, spray foam insulation, a correctly sized cooling unit, and an insulated glass door. Done right, an under-stairs cellar protects wine as well as a full room.
Do glass wine cellars and wine walls actually protect wine?
Yes, when built correctly. We use dual-pane argon-filled glazing with thermally broken frames and full perimeter seals. Glass is the biggest thermal load in any cellar, so the glass specification and the cooling calculation have to be designed together.
How long does a custom wine cellar take?
A typical custom cellar runs from design concept (within 5 business days of consultation) through a build of several weeks depending on scope — framing, spray foam, finish, cooling, racking, and glass are sequential steps that should not be rushed.
